Forsyth County is named for career politician John Forsyth; he served as Georgia's 31st Governor, Secretary of State under Presidents Jackson and Van Buren, was an ambassadorial minister to Spain, and served in both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.
Incorporated in 1832, from 1990 to 2010 the population has grown from 44,000 to approximately 175,000 residents.
