TOWNS

Putnam County administrative offices are located at 117 Putnam Drive, Eatonton, GA 31024; phone: 706-485-5826.

Putnam County was created in 1807 and named for Israel Putnam [1718-1790]. Putnam (Old Put) was an American army general who fought at the Battle of Bunker Hill during the Revolutionary War and served as an officer with Rogers' Rangers during the French and Indian War.

In recent years the county has become somewhat of a bedroom community for folks commuting to Atlanta, Athens and Macon.
