Morgan County lies on the western slope of the Appalachian plateau and is a blend of the eastern Kentucky coal fields and the outer Bluegrass region. The county was formed in 1822 from parts of Floyd and Bath counties and was first settled during the period from roughly 1790 to 1805 by emigrants from Virginia.[1]
