Gaston County administrative offices are located at 128 West Main Street, Gastonia, NC 28053; phone: 704-866-3196.
The area that would become Gaston County was settled as early as the 1750s when a band of Dutchmen, including James Kuykendall established a fort at the confluence of the Catawba and South Fork Rivers. The county was organized in 1846 and named for William Gaston [1778-1844] who had served in both the North Carolina House of Representatives and the Senate.
