The Johnson County Courthouse is located at 222 West Main Street, Mountain City, TN 37683; phone: 423-727-9012.

Johnson County, created in 1836, was named for Cave Johnson, Postmaster General during the administration of President Polk. It was the first county in the State to establish a public school under the Tennessee law of 1854 which provided for the support of schools by taxation. [1]
