Union County administrative offices are located at 901 Main Street, Maynardville, TN 37807; phone: 865-992-3061.
Union County was created in 1850 from parts of Anderson, Campbell, Claiborne, Grainger and Knox counties. The county seat was originally named "Liberty," but renamed "Maynardville" in honor of attorney and congressman, Horace Maynard, who had defended the county in a court case that sought to block its formation.
