TOWNS

Brazos County Courthouse is located at 300 East 26th Street, Bryan, TX 77803; phone: 979-361-4102.

In 1837 most of the area of the present Brazos County was part of Washington County. The Brazos River which bisected Washington County, proved a serious obstacle to county government and Navasota County was formed in 1841. In 1842 Navasota was renamed Brazos. The original county seat was located at Boonville, named for Mordecai Boon. The county seat was moved to Bryan in the 1860s.
