Founded in 1950, Ardencroft is an outgrowth of the Villages of Arden and Ardentown, all found on lifestyles based on the "Single Tax" movement of Henry George. In the single tax system, a person's house is not taxed. What is taxed is the land upon which the house sits; the land is owned by a charitable trust, managed by elected directors.
