Neighborhoods

A small portion of Batesville lies in Franklin County.

Batesville is a small city in southeastern Indiana. It's close to big cities like Cincinnati and Indianapolis, but it still feels like a friendly small town.

Batesville began in 1852. A man named Teunis Amack bought land there and later sold it so the town could be built. The town is named after Joshua Bates, one of the first people to live there. When the railroad came through, the town grew because trains stopped there.

Long ago, Batesville had many factories that made furniture and other wood things because there were lots of trees nearby. After the trees were gone, farming became important. Today, farming is still part of life in the City.

There are many old buildings that show different styles of architecture, like fancy houses and theaters. Some of these buildings are very special and are protected because they tell the story of the town's past.
