Beginnings
Shepherdsville was founded about 1793 when Adam Shepherd purchased land along the Salt River. The town's earliest economy was based on the production of salt from the nearby Bullitt's Lick. A post office was established in 1806. Paroquet Springs, a spa built to attract people to the mineral springs, was opened in 1836.
