Beginnings [1]

Brewster was first settled about 1656 and incorporated in 1803. It was named for William Brewster of Plymouth Colony who emigrated from England on the Mayflower in 1620.

Fortunes made at sea in the early 19th century brought wealth to the town and built luxurious homes. In the 1930s Brewster was a popular tourist destination.
