Keedysville was settled about 1768 and incorported more than century later, 1872. Located half‑way between Boonsboro and Sharpsburg the town was known early on as Centerville. The town's name officially became Keedysville when the first post office was established due to the existence of another Centerville, Maryland in Queen Anne's County.
