The focal point of the township is Ada Village, an unicorporated community lying approximately 12 miles east of Grand Rapids. Rix Robinson settled here in 1832 and is credited as being the first white man to live in the county. The village was platted ca. 1858 as a result of the coming ot the Detroit and Milwaukee Railroad. Grist mills were built along the Thronapple Rover in 1856 and 1865 respectively.
