Neighborhoods
First settled about 1650, Somersworth was incorporated as a town in 1753. It was reduced to about half its size in 1849 when the Town of Rollinsford was take off. The town was re-incorporated as a city in 1893. Located along the Salmon River, grist mills and saw mills as well as cotton and wool making were among the early business enterprises resulting in the growth of the city.
