The Town of Hot Springs changed its name to Truth or Consequences in response to the popular TV show's host, Ralph Edwards's announcement. In 1950 Edwards proclaimed he would air the program from the first town that would change its name to that of the television show. This launched an annual Fiesta during the first weekend of May. For half-a-century, Edwards visited the town during Fiesta, long after the show had been canceled.
