Brief History [1]

... a cluster of houses on the headwaters of Muddy Run, two miles southwest of Cochranville in West Fallowfield Township, is named for the Glenville Cotton Works erected here by an Englishman named Parker about 1800. This is said to be the birthplace of the first calico made in the United States. The succeeding owner, Josiah Harmer, who had helped to establish a Turkish army in his younger days, operated the factory until the Civil War when it was abandoned. The rebellion cut off the supply of cotton from the South.
