Graterford

Along Route 29 and the west bank of Perkiomen Creek, just north of Perkiomen Valley High School, are vestiges of the 18th century hamlet of Graterford; it was founded in 1756 by Jacob Kreater for whom it was named.

Polk's 1882 Directory lists it as "Grater's Ford" and declares the following: "Contains 149 inhabitants, in Perkiomen township, Montgomery county, on Perkiomen R.R., Br. P. & R. R. R., 10 miles northwest of Norristown court house. Ex. P & R., Samuel Cassel, postmaster.
