TOWNS

Established in 1819, Perry County [†] lies on the western slope of Tennessee's Highland Rim in its eastern and central portions and in the valley of the Tennessee River in its western portion. Because they never had a railroad, Perry County citizens relied on waterways and wagon roads for commerce and transportation for many generations. The first settlers of the county were farmers, many of who were slave owners.
