Dunlap was founded as the county seat in 1858. It was named for William Dunlap [1798-1872], who served in U.S. House of Representatives from 1833-1837. Dunlap was instrumental in the formation of Sequatchie County. Dunlap was incorporated as a city in 1941. [en.wikipedia.org, accessed July, 2015]
