Laid out in 1895 by J. O. Thomas and L. C. Luckel and incorporated in 1945. The City is named for the "K T" in the name of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad (MKT). Incorporated in 1870 the MKT was the first railroad to be built in Texas.
