Beginnings [1]

Hartland became a part of Hartford County in the division of the Western Lands. The town was settled around 1753, and town government came with incorporation in 1761. Hartland is made up of two high ranges, rising at one point to over 1,400 feet, with a north and south valley in the center. Part of the Tunxis State Forest is found within the boundaries of the town. This is one of the earliest areas in the state where Moose and Black Bear were first spotted.
