Three rivers flow through the town: Five Mile, French and Quinebaug.

The Town of Thompson is located in the northeast corner of Connecticut. Made up of ten villages, Thompson's geographic location as a crossroads began with the various Native American trails, followed by the Old Connecticut Path, the Middle Post Road, the turnpikes, railroad lines and the state and federal paved roadways. It shares borders with Massachusetts and Rhode Island and has long been noted for its rural beauty and cultural heritage. As a border town, Thompson lends a unique contribution to the federally recognized Quinebaug Shetucket National Heritage Corridor, also known as The Last Green Valley. [1]
