In 2009 Greeley County and the City of Tribune merged to form the Unified Government of Greeley County. Government offices are located at 208 Harper Street, Tribune, KS 67879.

Tribune was organized in 1888. The city was named after the New York Tribune newspaper. Horace Greeley (1811-1872, namesake of the county) served as the paper's editor.
