The area was first settled around 1812 by Elias Glenn who was an attorney and eventually a Baltimore Coutny judge. It was originally known as Glenburne

and subsequently Glennsbourne Farm. In 1888 the town was laid out by George T. Melvin and Henry S. Mancha. The present name was given in 1930 by then postmaster Louis J. DeAlba.
