The county was established in 1836. Early settlers included: S. H. Fletcher, J. C. Nelson, J. S. McPeak, Ransom H. Byrn, Walter H. Bell, R. H. Hunphreys, Lorenzo A. Besancon, S. May, Thomas M. Fletcher, James F. Boren, and Richard Abbay. [1]
