Incorporated in 1851, the City of Graham, county seat of Alamance County, encompasses approximately 9.7 sq. miles of land within its corporate boundaries. Graham is located just off Interstate 40/85, bordering the City of Burlington, and approximately 50 miles northwest of Raleigh.
The city is named for William Alexander Graham (1804-1875) a North Carolina politician who served as Governor, U. S. Senator, and Secretary of the Navy.
