Ashe County is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains region of northwestern North Carolina. The town of West Jefferson is situated in a broad valley between Paddy Mountain and Mount Jefferson in central Ashe County. The north-south U.S. Highway 221 skirts the eastern edge of the town. South of downtown 221 intersects with N.C. 163, which runs from the southeastern part of the county to West Jefferson. N.C. 194 runs roughly northeast-southwest through Ashe County and becomes Jefferson Avenue, the primary street in West Jefferson. [1]
