Neighborhoods

What would become the city of Lowell began about 1850 with the building of the Woodlawn Mill along the South Fork River. A community developed and was known as Wright's Station when a depot was built serving the Charlotte and Atlanta Railroad, ca. 1870. In 1879 the name of the community was changed to Lowell, for Lowell, Massachusetts, due to the developing textile industry. [1]
