Cavalier City Hall is located at 301 Division Ave North, Cavalier, North Dakota 58220. Phone: 701-265-8800.
Cavalier [†] was established in 1875 on open land and incorporated in 1902. It became the county seat of Pembina County in 1911.
The city was named after Charles Turner Cavileer, an early settler, fur trader, customs collector, and the first postmaster of Pembina (1864Ð1884). A spelling error in the cityÕs name ("Cavalier" instead of "Cavileer") was never corrected. Cavileer is documented as North DakotaÕs first permanent white settler.
In the early 1970s, CavalierÕs population quadrupled due to the U.S. anti-ballistic missile program, which brought military personnel and infrastructure development to the area, including the nearby Cavalier Air Force Station (now Space Force Station).
The Cavalier Chronicle, a weekly newspaper operating since 1885, is the oldest business in Cavalier and serves as Pembina CountyÕs official newspaper.
