Early settlers in Hollowville (formerly known as Smoky Hollow) were William Z. Holsapple, David Blunt, John M. Smith and a Dr. Sharp. Adam Van de Boe was one of the first to engage in merchandising and was followed by John Freeland who opened an additional store. The post office was established as Smoky Hollow in 1833 with John M. Smith as first postmaster. The name was changed to Hollowville in 1867. [1]
