Little Rest

Washington Town, Dutchess County, NY

Little Rest (Littlerest) probably owes its name to the fact that in the days before the railroads, when there was a very large passenger and produce traffic by wagon between the Hudson River and Connecticut, the wagons and stages which had no accommodations at this point for spending the night, were accustomed to stop here briefly to water and rest the horses and oxen.
