Beginnings
The town of Warren was formed from a portion of German Flatts in 1796. Located on the extreme southern border of Herkimer County, Warren is characterized by rolling hills that rise in a ridge to 800 feet above the Mohawk Valley to the north. Sparsely settled, the land historically consisted of woodlots and large dairy farms that prospered with the commercial growth of cheese making in Herkimer County during the nineteenth century. The hamlet of Jordanville grew up as the principal settlement on the road linking the Mohawk Valley to the resort community of Richfield Springs.
