Beginnings [1]

The village of Earlville (located in Madison County and Chenango County) is laid out in a grid pattern. North and South Main Street (State Route 12B), which was known as the Utica-Oxford Turnpike in the early 1800's, is the main thoroughfare. East and West Main Street is the main cross street in the village. In the 1800's it linked commercial/industrial zones on either side of the village. The intersection of these two main streets is the village crossroads and core of the business district. Side streets extend from these streets, joining at right angles within the village proper. There are two parks: The village green, occupying the northeast corner of the main intersection, and Silas Baker Memorial Field, west of South Main Street.
