Westbury Village was first settled circa 1658 by English Quakers in the 17th century. Historians believe it was named in 1675 by Henry Willis for the town of Westbury in Wiltshire, England. The village has a mix of areas including residential commercial and industrial.Still in use by the Society of Friends, the Quaker Meeting house was first built in 1700 with its 3rd iteraction constructed in 1902. Many residents commute to New York City via the Westbury LIRR train station.
Westbury was a known stop on the underground railroad with Quaker residents providing aid to escaped slaves.
