Wethersfield was created from Orangeville, April 12, 1823. The first settlement was made in 1819 by Lewis Hancock, Guy Morgan, and Calvin Clifford, who came from Jefferson County. Reverend Boomer, a Baptist, was the first preacher. By 1860 there were 6 churches in the town.
