Beginnings [1]

Franklin was incorporated in 1850. A post office at 'Lillie' was created about 1883 with Henry E. Steffler appointed as postmaster. He was succeeded by Matilda M. Steffler in 1887. In 1880 the town had a population of 739. That year a United Presbyterian Church was established.
