Neighborhoods

Originally settled by Scotch-Irish immigrants who named the town Nantmeal, meaning sweet water. The history of the township is largely one of farming and agriculture.

There are two township resources listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

  1. Isabella Furnace Bollinger Dr, circa 1835; in operation from 1835 through 1894, this was one of the longest-running iron furnaces in Chester County, and one of latest-running in all of Pennsylvania.
  2. Pleasant Hill Plantation Little Conestoga Road, circa 1780; this pre-Revolutionary, Georgian style home was the birthplace of Pennsylvania's 33rd Governor, George H. Earle, Jr.
