The Avondale East Historic District is a residential neighborhood whose contributing homes were built ca. 1909-1912.
Originally platted as an exclusive, upscale neighborhood, deed restrictions were in place until 1930.
Houston Electric Street Railway extended its south end line to serve Avondale residents, making the neighborhood one of what is referred to as a Streetcar Suburb.
The development was so successful that it was quickly followed by the Avondale West neighborhood.
Popular homes styles include Queen Anne, Craftsman Bungalow and Prairie.
