David Bingham settled in what is now the Bayside neighborhood sometime prior to the city's incorporation in 1892, probably in the 1860s. A freshwater stream prompted Indians to make the area a summer camp. The coming of the Great Northern Railroad spawned the rapid growth of mills and other businesses and residences.
The neighborhood is generally bounded by the Bay, Hewitt Avenue, Broadway, and 19th Street.
