TOWNS

Established in 1827, rural Delaware County was annexed into the Muncie city limits. It was named for the Delaware (Lenni Lenape) Indians who still inhabited the area at that time. The first discovery of natural gas in Indiana occurred in 1876 in the town of Eaton, Delaware County.
