Downtown Cambridge [1] is an approximate 12-block area originally platted in 1869 located around the intersection of Highway 95 and Main Street. Historically the downtown area has served as the economic focal point for the City and surrounding community. Over the past few years however commercial activity has shifted away from the downtown to an area along Highway 95 east of Highway 65.
The City of Cambridge [2] was established in the late 19th century along the railroad from Minneapolis to Duluth. It was named by, and originally settled by, immigrants from New England.
