Oak Grove was platted by William E. Frick in 1878. In 1880 it was already one of the oldest post villages in the area and, in addition to the post office, had 11 stores and businesses, a school house, a church, a hotel, a livery stable and a mill. It was a stop on the Chicago and Alton Railroad.
