The Carteret County Courthouse is located at 300 Courthouse Square, Beaufort, NC 28516; phone: 252-504-4466.

The county was established in 1722 from parts of Craven County. It is named for Sir John Carteret [1690-1763], the Earl of Granville, one of the Lord Proprietors of North Carolina.
