The Northampton County Courthouse is located at 104 West Jefferson Street, Jackson, NC 27845; phone: 252-534-1631.

Northampton County was established in 1741 from a portion of Bertie County. A part was taken off in 1759 when Hertford County was established. The county is named for James Compton (1687-1754), the 5th Earl of Northampton, a British politician.
