Merrick Villa

Collingswood Boro, Camden County, NJ

Merrick Villa is a small bungalow colony developed in the 1910s by Howard L. Merrick, who sited these houses around the "Manor House," an 1801 villa which was subsequently demolished and replaced with smaller residences. This development encompasses a one-block section of Ceilings Avenue between Bettlewood and Colford Avenues, with several small lanes such as Maple and Allen winding through to Eldridge. The small cottages and bungalows, primarily of frame and stone construction, express the rustic character of the bungalow within a picturesque, almost resort setting that gives it a special identity within the district.
