In 1946, William J. Levitt, known for his mass-produced housing projects, bought 19 acres of land near the Carle Place train station of the Long Island Railroad for what was essentially an experiment. His crews brought pre-cut lumber to the site and rapidly assembled 600 low-cost houses. This was done to offer affordable suburban living with an easy commute into offices in New York City. Within five years, the population of Carle Place had grown by 500 percent due to returning veterans and their families.
The development spans Carle Road on west( Carle Place unincorporated CDP in North Hempstead)and east sides, the Village of Westbury
