The Municipality [†]was founded in 1886 and incorporated as a Borough in 1949. In 1978, the Municipality became a Home Rule Municipality pursuant to its Home Rule Charter dated November 18, 1975. The Municipality continues to operate today under the Charter (as amended). It is located approximately ten miles south of downtown Pittsburgh, Allegheny County.
