Neighborhoods

Nockamixon is one of two Bucks County municipalities to have an Indian name (the other being Tinicum Township); it's believe the name is likely a corruption of an Indian word meaning "the place of three huts" or "the place of soft soil." Shawnee Indians inhabited the area as late as 1730. Europeans began settling here circa 1735. The township was once noted for "tulipware" pottery, as was neighboring Haycock Township.

Nockamixon Township does not have its own local police force. it is patrolled by the Pennsylvania State Police from the Dublin barracks at 3218 Rickert Road in Perkasie, PA 18944.

Voting for the entire township takes place at a single location: Palisades High School Purple Gym (Rear Lot), 35 Church Hill Road. Kintnersville, PA 18930.
