Originally known as Sand Ridge when a railroad was built through the area in 1869, what would become primarily a farming community was settled by 1877. Growth was slow until 1884 with the completion of the Davis/Weber Counties Canal which meant water no-longer had to be imported in barrels from the town of Layton.
