Neighborhoods

Copperton is a Township governed by the Salt Lake County Mayor and County Council. The area originated as a mining service center for the Utah Kennecott Copper Mining operation. It was named by Utah Copper Company and developed as a subdivision of workers housing to address a shortage of living places in the early 1900s. Plans for the subdivision included a park, shade trees, graveled streets and a ballpark. The architects (firm of Scott and Welch) designed 85 variations of homes in an attempt to depart from the repetition and uniformity typically associated with company towns.
